Jekiri commits to Miami

Miami picked up their second commitment of the 2012 class on Monday. This time they stayed local and scored a big man.

Miami picked up a local on Monday.

Tonye Jekiri, who had a big summer playing with Team Breakdown, gave Jim Larranaga a verbal pledge, according to Breakdown coach Kenny Gillion.

"He thought coach Jim did a really good job of recruiting him," Gillions said. "He liked their strength and conditioning coach and he thought they could get him better. He's already in Miami going to school so it wasn't a big transition for him."

Jekiri, of Miami (Fla.), Champagnat Catholic, also considered Clemson, Vanderbilt, George Mason and Alabama.

School began trailing Jekiri in July and his recruiting began picking up the past few months.

"I think his upside is tremendous," Gillion told Scout.com. "I think he'll come in from day one and be a big impact from rebounding and blocking shot."

"The first part of July he was a monster," he added. "I think he's really good."

Jekiri is Miami's second 2012 commitment. He joins sharp shooter Melvin Johnson to make up their current recruiting class.
