Gary Harris Visit Journal: Part IV

Five-star shooting guard finished up his official visit tour with a trip to Michigan State. The No. 12 ranked prospect in the country documented his final visit for Scout.com and talks about the trip as well as his impending commitment to one of his four finalists.

We got a good team win on Friday night against Fishers High School. They are our main rival so it was good to beat them for the second time this season. It was an emotional win for us though, our quarterback went down with a broken ankle, but we came back and had three straight touchdowns after he went down to seal the victory. Fishers beat us last year to end our season so it felt good to beat the defending state champs and get some revenge. I hope we can go forward and get a big win next weekend against Ft. Wayne Snider.

The Snider game will be an emotional one for me because it will be the first football game I have played since fourth grade without our quarterback. Every single football game I have played has been with him so it will be weird not having him out there, but myself and my entire team have faith in his replacement to lead us to a big victory.

On Saturday morning we had a quick film session, and then right after that my family and I made the drive up to East Lansing to start my official visit at Michigan State. We got up there about three in the afternoon and we met up with the coaches, the players, and had a meal at the coach's offices.

From there my parents and I separated. I met up with the players and got to hang out with them and get to know them better. I met up with Travis Trice, Draymond Green, Brandon Wood, and hung out on campus with basically the entire team.

The other recruits were on campus so my parents got to know the parents of the other recruits. I know they enjoyed spending time with the other parents in an informal environment.

At about 6:30 myself, Brandon Wood, Draymond Green, and the other players went to Coach Izzo's house. The women's coach also came by and talked to my mom which was good since they played against each other in college.

From there I went back and hung out with the players for the night. We just got to know each other better and had a real good time. It was a fun evening with the coaches and the players.

On Sunday morning we woke up and went to practice. They had about an hour and half practice. My parents and I watched the practice and they went real hard the entire time. It looked like a good practice.

After the practice we met with the associate dean of the school of business. We talked about the different programs that they offered within the school. It was a good talk and I learned a lot about the academics side of things if I do decide to attend Michigan State.

Following the meeting at the business school we went to brunch with some of the players and the coaching staff. We ate at a building that had a view of the entire campus and it was a pretty cool site. The food was good, and my family and I had a good time talking with the coaches while we were eating.

After brunch we had a tour of the campus with Coach Izzo and then we went back to the offices. We had a good talk and then we all said our goodbyes to the other families, the other recruits, and the coaches before returning home.

Now this recruiting journey is finally coming to an end. These four visits gave me a great chance to see what each school was like from the player's view. On these visits it was more than just spending time with the coaches all the time. I got to spend time with the players and build relationships with them and see which group of guys I want to be teammates with next year.

From here over the next few days I am going to talk with my parents and figure out which school is best for my future. On Monday we will begin sorting things out and determine which school is right for me. I intend to make my commitment during the early signing period, but my family and I want to make a well informed decision, so I can't say for sure when the announcement will be made.

I learned a lot on each visit and all the coaches did a great job so this decision is going to be really difficult. I built a great relationship with all four coaching staffs as well as the players. Everybody has put a lot of time and effort into this entire process. The hard part is definitely going to be choosing just one school. If I could choose all four I would, but obviously I can only pick one.

Finally I would like to thank everybody who has been following my recruitment and reading these journals. I would especially like to thank all four head coaches. Coach Izzo, Coach Crean, Coach Painter, and Coach Calipari all have been great to me and my family and I know they have all put forth a lot of time, effort, and energy in recruiting me.

I would also like to thank the fans for putting up with me during this process. I know it has been kind of crazy winding down, but I really appreciate all of the support I have gotten and it really means a lot. Hopefully everybody will respect me and my decision no matter which school I choose. It isn't personal I can unfortunately only choose one school and I have four great options.
