Lucas headed to Kansas

Kansas landed another 2012 prospect on Sunday with a commitment from Landen Lucas. The Portland center talked to Scout.com about his commitment.

Kansas added to its 2012 frontcourt class on Sunday with a commitment from 6-foot-8, 240-pound Portland Westview center Landen Lucas.

After officially visiting the KU program this weekend, Lucas didn't take long before deciding Kansas was the place for him.

"On the visit I got a good chance to talk to coach (Bill) Self and (Danny) Manning and the rest of the staff," Lucas said. "I really just saw a good opportunity there, not only for me to improve but also to help contribute and that's obviously appealing at a situation like the one at Kansas."

Everything that Lucas saw on his official visit played a role in his commitment.

"I liked everything," he said. "The fans were nice, the game was crazy, the team was real cool and I think that everyone we met with all the way to the strength coach and the academic advisors were very cool and I got along with all of them."

Lucas is hoping to come in and make an impact right away.

"They really talked to me about me coming in and being an anchor for them and playing that post position," Lucas said. "They're losing a little bit and they could lose more in (Thomas) Robinson so I see a really good opportunity to come in and hold it down on the inside for them.

"I'm very, very excited. It feels good."
