PrepWestHoops has learned that Travis Smith, 6- PG Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita, has committed to Brad Holland and the University of San Diego. Smith is one of the more underrated guards in the west and this is an important commitment for Holland and his program.
We spoke with Travis today and he confirmed the commitment. "It's a great school," Smith said. "My parents and I visited the school, we all liked it and it's a great fit."
We asked Travis about the possibility of playing with Derek Stockalper, who plays with Travis on the summer SCA team and is also being recruited by San Diego. "That would be the ideal situation -- I enjoy playing with him," Smith said.
Travis and SCA will be playing at the Big Time, as well as the Best of Summer, later this month. When asked what he thought he needed to work on, Smith said, "My mid-range game is something I've been working on. Also learning to stay mentally focused on a consistent basis."
Smith said that Loyola Marymount and UC Santa Barbara were the two other schools he was seriously considering.
