Spiders Land Moliva

The Richmond Spiders have assembled a very good three-man recruiting class. On Thursday, they stayed in state and landed their final recruit of the season.

Gaston Moliva, a standout performer at Ryan Academy, committed to play with the Spiders in the fall. Moliva, a sturdy and athletic power forward, is the third player to pledge allegiance to Jerry Wainright's Spiders in the Class of 2003.

We've seen Moliva come up the past few seasons and steadily improve. He's got a great physique and loves to rebound and block shots.

At points during the season, he had been offered scholarships by St. Joe's, Dayton, College of Charleston and Penn State.

Down in Richmond, the Spiders will have three new faces on campus next season, including a revamped backcourt. Daon Merritt, a point guard coached by Spiders assistant Gary DeCesare in high school, loves to attack and has won a lot of ballgames during his time at St. Raymond's and with the New York Ravens on the AAU circuit.

Merritt's future running mate is an accomplished player in his own right. Guard Andres Sandoval has plenty of speed and he too isn't afraid to get in the paint and attack the rim.
