Perry Wide Open
Harvey Perry, 6-4 JR SG Henderson (Nev.) Foothill, has been something of an enigma for the past couple years. Blessed with a great basketball body, and good athleticism, he has a chance to be an outstanding player. However, inconsistent focus and effort, along with some missed playing time, have slowed his development. But this past weekend in Los Altos, Perry put together a couple of performances that were the best we'd seen from him. His outside shot, which had been erratic, was much better -- especially off the catch. He played very good defense, using his length and quickness to good advantage. Most importantly, he was active and focused for the whole game -- rather than just making a play here or there. We spoke with Harvey's father, Harvey Perry, Sr., about his son's recruitment. "Arizona St. has really set the tone for Harvey's recruitment," said Perry. "We took an unofficial visit there back in April and they've been in contact with us." Perry went on to say, "But Harvey is wide open at this point. Some of the schools that have contacted us include Washington, Indiana, Texas Tech, Minnesota, Colorado, Long Beach St., Oklahoma, Oregon St., Ohio St., Tennessee and Cal." Perry said geography won't play a role in his son's decision. "It doesn't matter," said Perry. "He'll go to the best situation. Early playing time will definitely be a factor." Harvey has some work to do in order to qualify, as his father said he was "on the bubble academically."
