Cook Has the Recipe

Ashanti Cook, the talented point guard from Westchester, might get overlooked on his loaded Westchester team, but college coaches from all over the country are noticing him this summer...

Ashanti Cook, 6-0 SR PG, Los Angeles (Calif.) Westchester, has, so far, had a good summer, impressing college coaches from around the country.

In fact, his list of favorite schools reflects that, including schools from east and west. Cook said he's hearing from and likes New Mexico, Seton Hall, Boston College, Wake Forest and Oregon. UCLA, also, is sniffing around. He hasn't received an offer yet, but he said that coaches from many of these colleges have said an offer was coming soon.

With so many schools in different parts of the country on his list, Cook said going away to school didn't matter to him. "I think my family wants me to leave," he said. "I don't mean that in a bad way. They just think it would be a good experience for me."

Cook said he's nowhere near narrowing down a list of schools that he's considering seriously. "I want to stay open right now, see what comes along. There could be more schools that show interest." Because of this, Cook said he's not sure when he would commit. "I could wait until spring, I don't know. If I get some good offers by fall, I could definitely do it then."

Cook said he has a 3.2 GPA and hasn't taken the SAT yet.
