Holbrook Picks "X"
A few years ago, Randy Holbrook was a Top 100 recruit out of St. Louis (MO) Kirkwood. The talented left-handed power forward failed to achieve the needed grades for freshman eligibility and headed off to junior college to improve his academic standing. Now, he's ready for the Atlantic 10.
"I'm going to Xavier," Holbrook said. "Man, I'm too excited. I want to go right now."
Holbrook said that in addition to Xavier, he considered Long Beach State, St. Louis and Iowa State. Xavier moved quickly in getting this one done and his commitment is important considering top flight prep big men are a rarity in the Class of 2002.
"Xavier has a good history of graduating players and developing big men," the former member of the St. Louis Eagles said. Currently, Holbrook is nursing a back injury that he sustained last season when he averaged 10 points and 8 rebounds at Odessa.
He's the second commitment for new head coach Thad Matta. The Musketeers also have a commitment from high school forward Angelo Smith.
