Dakarai Allen Update

Dakarai Allen, one of the elite wings in the west for 2013, says several Pac-12 programs have offered him a scholarship....

Dakarai Allen, 6-4 JR SG Sacramento (Calif.) Sheldon, is one of the elite prospects in the west for 2013 and his performance on Tuesday at the Holiday Classic demonstrated why he's such a promising prospect.

On a day when his jumper wasn't falling, Allen managed to impact the game in a number of different ways. A terrific athlete, Allen crashed the glass the entire game and finished with 15 rebounds. He got 13 points on a variety of moves to the basket and he had a number of excellent passes to teammates (many of which ended up not being converted). He's one of the better defenders in the west and he had several blocks and steals.

There are definitely other wings in the west that can score better at this time than Allen. However, there are very few that can match his combination of athleticism, physical upside, feel for the game, passing ability and unselfishness. He's almost unselfish to a fault.

I spoke with Allen following the game and asked him about the schools that are recruiting him.

"Most of the Pac-12 has offered, except for Oregon and Arizona," said Allen.

I asked if he had a feel for which school is recruiting him the hardest.

"Colorado," said Allen. "I get a lot of stuff from them and they're always in contact."

Allen said he's still wide open at this time.

"All of the schools recruiting me are pretty equal right now," said Allen.

Allen doesn't anticipate taking any unofficial visits in the near future.

"I think I'm going to wait until after the summer to visit schools," said Allen.

Allen said he has a 3.5 GPA.
