Augustine Will Narrow List In August

He's 6-9. Probably 6-10 in cleats. That's right, IL PF James Augustine is a pitcher and a power forward. He'll probably be just a power forward in college. Augustine says he'll look to narrow his college choices sometime in August.

Offers Rolling In For Augustine

Just a few months ago, PF James Augustine was little more than a blip on the national radar screen. Now, he has offers from some of the heavy hitters in college basketball.

"It's been awesome," Augustine said. "It's just an awesome experience. My freshman year, I wasn't even thinking about playing basketball."

At this point, Augustine has scholarship offers from Notre Dame, Illinois, Wake Forest, Xavier, West Virginia and Purdue. Marquette had been on his list, but a recent commitment or two did them in.

Last season, Augustine averaged 14 points and 8 rebounds. He played alongside Marquette freshman Kevin Menard. Somehow, it took a while for college recruiters to catch onto him. "They were probably just looking at Kevin because he got most of our points. I don't really know why [it to so long for schools to get interested]. The reason Purdue saw me first is because they were looking at Kevin. The same with Marquette."

"I think after nationals I'm going to narrow it down and take my visits and figure the whole thing out."

Meanwhile, Augustine is playing a little baseball in between stops on the summer AAU circuit. On Tuesday, he pitched, giving up four runs but only one earned. It has to be a little comical seeing a 6-9 kid in spikes. "They don't laugh but you can hear them. [Our fans] just make a joke out of it. The other fans have to be thinking what the heck is this?"
