Soph Swinton Makes Commitment

Greensboro Dudley sophomore Kevin Swinton is off the board. The power forward is heading, or shall we say will head, to the ACC in the fall of 2005.

Skip Prosser has done such a good job cultivating relationships and prospects in the state of North Carolina that you would think he's planning on running for political office.

On Thursday, Prosser landed a biggie. Greensboro Dudley sophomore power forward Kevin Swinton pledged his allegiance to the Demon Deacons.

Actually, he committed on Tuesday, but news just began leaking out today.

"I think he's the perfect fit for Skip's style," NC Gaters AAU president Vic Sapp said. "I think he's a great get."

Swinton has good size and strength. He's a rebounding machine who will enjoy the presence of an assist man like Chris Paul. And, don't think for a second Paul's presence wasn't factored into the decision. Kids know that with Paul in the lineup the big men will get the basketball.

"Skip's got a great reputation for bringing in North Carolina players," Sapp said. "I think Skip's style of play is perfect for Kevin. I told Kevin that Eric Williams can't complain about not getting touches. A more deliberate offense is perfect for Kevin."

Syracuse and North Carolina were in the mix, though UNC's new staff had not offered. Offering a sophomore is about as early as you'll see a big time school move on a kid. For a guy like Prosser, offering this early is unchartered waters.

"Skip told me this is the first sophomore's ever offered."
