Overton shines at CRC

St. Joseph's Prep had a big win at the Cancer Research Classic. Junior guard Miles Overton was big in the win, and look for his recruitment to begin to really pick up.

One of the true breakout performers at the Cancer Research Classic was Miles Overton. The Philadelphia (Penn.) St. Joseph's Prep standout battled the flu, but was still hitting shots and making plays for his team all over the floor. Now look for the NBA legacy's recruitment to continue to pick up.

Coached by former LaSalle boss Speedy Morris, St. Joseph's Prep is one of the better teams in the Philadelphia area, and Overton, along with Notre Dame commitment Steve Vasturia, lead the way. Currently they are off to a good start to their season.

"Our season is going pretty good," said Overton. "We have taken two tough losses, but we are pushing forward."

When it comes to Overton's recruitment, he currently has offers from LaSalle, St. Joseph's, Temple, Penn, James Madison, Drexel, and San Francisco. Also interest is coming in from Virginia and Villanova amongst others.

It is still early in the process for the 2013 target, but he already has some factors in his mind for what is important when the time comes to make a decision.

"I am just looking for a basketball program and a place where I have a good relationship with the team," said Overton. "I want to know the players who will be there when I get there as well as the academics. My high school is a good academic school so that is important."

He continued, "I always tell people I want to go to a school that is close enough that my grandma can go to the games. So I don't want to go too far."

No visits are being planned for Overton coming up, but he has made trips to Virginia, Drexel, and James Madison in the past.

When asked about the trip to Virginia, Overton said, "It is a beautiful campus and their new arena is amazing. I liked it a lot."

Drexel is a local trip within the city, and Overton says that he has an excellent relationship with their staff.

"I have a good relationship with Drexel," said Overton. "I have a real close relationship with those guys and I like what they are doing there."

Don't expect any kind of quick decision from Overton, but one thing is for sure he is beginning to take his game to a new level.
