Offers pile up for Thomas

The scholarship offers are piling up for 2013 guard Matt Thomas. After a solid summer with the Wisconsin Playmakers the 6-foot-4 guard has continued his strong play into his junior season.

Matt Thomas is building quite the reputation in Wisconsin.

One of the premier shooters in the 2013 class, Thomas, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard out Onalaska (Wisc.) High, is putting up 22.3 points a game during his junior season.

"I'm playing pretty well," Thomas told "I'm a little inconsistent at times, but overall I thought I've played pretty well."

Thomas has a reputation as a long-range threat, but he's also comfortable pulling up for jump shots from mid-range.

"I definitely shoot the ball well and make threes," he said. "My mid-range game is pretty good and I've been working on getting all the way to the basket and I've gotten better at that and then getting my teammates involved."

"Whenever I'm shooting I work on it," he said of his mid-range game. "I definitely like doing that. A lot of teams know I'm a three-point shooter so it's easier to pump fake and pull up."

During the season Thomas has had head coaches from Iowa State, Minnesota and Boston College see him play.

To go with scholarship offers from those three schools Thomas also has offers from Marquette, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Creighton, Virginia, Northwestern and Northern Iowa.

"It's going pretty well," Thomas said of his recruitment. "It's kind of slowed down during the season and I like that because I'd rather focus on high school season right now anyways."

Thomas said the only school that hasn't offered that is involved in his recruitment is Wisconsin.

"Wisconsin is on and off, but they haven't offered," Thomas said. "They were at one of my games and I've talked to them, but they've been on and off."

To date, Thomas has taken unofficial visits to Minnesota, Iowa State, Creighton and Wisconsin.

"I don't have a timetable or anything like that," Thomas said. "I don't see myself making a decision anytime soon. After the high school season I'll put some more thought into it."
