2014 Hall emerges in Kentucky

Shane Hall, a 2014 prospect from the Eastern part of Kentucky, is putting up big numbers this year and is gaining interest from college programs.

Shane Hall didn't expect this.

The talented sophomore from Paintsville (Ky.) Johnson Central didn't think he would have high major schools showing interest or even that he'd be able to travel to schools on recruiting trips and score great seats.

But the 6-foot-8 ultra athletic power forward has had those in Eastern Kentucky buzzing and now he's entertaining a number of college coaches along the way.

"It's pretty awesome," Hall said of the recruiting process. "I have a bunch of big schools recruiting me and I get to go to games for free and stuff. I didn't get to do that before I started getting recruited."

"I didn't think I'd ever get to talk to big coaches like Tom Crean," Hall added.

But Hall has had that opportunity. Indiana has been to his school, as have Purdue, Xavier, Indiana State, Marshall and Northern Kentucky.

Hall also has interest from Cincinnati, Alabama, Butler, Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky.

This past weekend, Hall swung by Cincinnati to watch them in action against Seton Hall. He visited Indiana for their Hoosier Hysteria event and also took trips to Purdue, Xavier, Morehead State and EKU.

Hall's sophomore campaign has gone well. Up against 2013 power forward Ray Kasongo last Friday, Hall managed 22 points and 14 rebounds.

"I've been playing a lot harder than last year," he said. "We don't have as many seniors playing as much. I'm just doing a lot more this year."

"I know I'm averaging a double-double and like five blocks a game," Hall added.

With Hall's athleticism and ability to get off the floor quickly, he has a chance to be a tremendous shot blocker. Hall said that's the strength of his game.

"Down low and defensively I block every shot they throw up," he said. "I alter a lot of shots when they drive. On offense I drive more than I used to and kick the ball out."

Hall is planning to run with Kentucky Elite on the spring and summer circuit.
