Shortly after the Panthers stepped up their interest level, Jones, a 6-foot-5 wing out of Teaneck (N.J.) High verbally pledged to Jamie Dixon.
New Jersey Playaz coach Jimmy Salmons confirmed the news to Scout.com.
"We have a strong relationship with Pittsburgh," Salmons told Scout.com. "Brandin Knight is a former player and there's a major trust factor on our behalf."
"Our kids know that we really like them as a program and as a staff," Salmons added.
"They weren't fickle about their interest in him," he said. "I think that mattered a lot to he and his family. He always believed he could play at the highest level and I think they will give him that opportunity."
