Jones gives pledge to Pittsburgh

Chris Jones, a 2012 prospect, made a verbal pledge late Monday night. He's headed to Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh threw an offer Chris Jones' way last week.

Shortly after the Panthers stepped up their interest level, Jones, a 6-foot-5 wing out of Teaneck (N.J.) High verbally pledged to Jamie Dixon.

New Jersey Playaz coach Jimmy Salmons confirmed the news to

"We have a strong relationship with Pittsburgh," Salmons told "Brandin Knight is a former player and there's a major trust factor on our behalf."

"Our kids know that we really like them as a program and as a staff," Salmons added.

A wide range of schools showed interest in Jones, including Fairfield, Boston, Hofstra, Virginia Tech and others, but Pittsburgh latest push won out.

"They weren't fickle about their interest in him," he said. "I think that mattered a lot to he and his family. He always believed he could play at the highest level and I think they will give him that opportunity."

Jones a strong 2012 recruiting class that includes top 10 prospect Steven Adams and four-star guard James Robinson.
