Buckley Headed To The Big Ten

Another one bites the dust. Swingman Melvin Buckley, a high school teammate of Eddy Curry, made a decision on Friday. Buckley said he's going to play basketball in the Big Ten for Purdue University.

Buckley To Purdue

For IL SF Melvin Buckley, the recruiting process was getting tiresome. So, on Friday he simplified his life and made a decision.

"I committed to Purdue this morning," Buckley said. "You know what, when I stopped and thought about it, I wanted to go somewhere that was a family atmosphere. They had the scholarship offer out there since my sophomore year."

Buckley said he was receiving interest from other programs in his area. However, the Purdue staff made the choice easy for him. "They told me that they want me strictly as a scorer and to be able to stop some people on defense. They like the fact I can handle the ball. The freedom in the offense played a big part in the decision."

"It really came down to being stressed. When you are thinking about making a decision, all these coaches are weighing on your mind. It's like a load off."

Next up for Melvin is a trip to Las Vegas for the adidas Big Time where he'll play with the Illinois Fire.
