"Right now I am definitely getting close to a decision," said Jefferson. "When I thought I was ready to make a decision Duke came into the picture and I had to give them a good look. It has definitely been a back and forth thing, but hopefully I can make a decision in the next couple of weeks."
Obviously since Jefferson decided to check out Duke he has the Blue Devils under serious consideration at the moment.
"The combination of athletics and academics definitely appeals about Duke. Coach K is amazing," said Jefferson of Duke. "His coaching staff is the best. They are always going to compete and they play in a great conference that is only getting better. To play for a school like Duke would be appealing to any kid."
Roughly 45 minutes from Duke is North Carolina State. The Wolfpack have long been thought of as one of the leaders for Jefferson, and he says getting to hang out with their three commitments at the McDonald's All-American Game has been fun.
"It is great with them," said Jefferson. "I have gotten to know Rodney (Purvis), T.J. (Warren), and Tyler (Lewis) and they are great guys. I have been roommates with Rodney like three times already from the summer until now. Also what Mark Gottfried and the coaching staff have done with the program is impressive. Any time you have players coming out and say the coach has helped them develop in such a short amount of time it is really amazing."
When it comes to the Kentucky Wildcats, Jefferson made a visit to Lexington and says that they remain in the mix.
"Definitely they have a wonderful program," Jefferson said of Kentucky. "What they do with young guys is special. How they bring freshmen together with communicating, playing hard, and winning is unbelievable. You don't get a lot of time with freshmen and to have them playing better than teams with fifth year seniors, Coach (John) Calipari just does an excellent job."
While those schools are definitely in the mix, two local options seem to have a place on Jefferson's final list.
One of the schools is Villanova. The Wildcats have been recruiting Jefferson for a while, and Jefferson has an excellent relationship with the coaching staff.
"It is definitely easy to talk with Villanova because they are so close," said Jefferson. "They are local and if I do decide to stay local they definitely would be a school at the top. The job Coach (Jay) Wright and his staff so would help me get better."
Also the Temple Owls are also beginning to get in the mix with Jefferson.
"I have not met with Temple," Jefferson explained. "Me and my family were hoping to do that before we left, but we got too busy. I am hoping to meet with them before my decision."
For now Jefferson is just in the decision making process and looking for the day when he knows it is right to make his final choice.
"Just it will be me one day waking up and having that gut feeling that this is the place I want to be," said Jefferson. "It will be a place I am comfortable on and off the court, and when I get that feeling is when I will decide."
