Xavier reels in Chris Thomas

Chris Thomas, a former top 10 recruit in the 2013 class, is off the board. The Junior College sensation will play in the Atlantic-10 for Chris Mack at Xavier.

Chris Mack and Xavier is set at the guard position for a few years.

After adding Semaj Christon and Myles Mack in the 2012 class, Mack and company scored a commitment from Chris Thomas, a junior college standout at Chipola, on Thursday.

Chipola College assistant Pat Blake confirmed the news to Scout.com.

"I think it came down to his relationship with coach [Rasheen] Davis," Blake said. "He's always been there for Chris."

Blake also cited Mack's style of play as a reason for choosing Xavier.

"When it came down to a decision, the style of play that coach Mack plays fits him," he added.

"I think coach Mack and what he's been able to do there with [Jordan] Crawford and Tu Holloway and the success they've had and the freedom he allows his guard fits perfect with Chris."

Thomas' travel team coach – Greg Willis – cited Davis' persistence and relationship with Thomas and his family

"Chris has had some ups and downs in his career, but I think a place like Xavier and a guy like Rasheen is good for him," Willis said. "Chris is a very loyal kid. Xavier has been there with him through all of his ups and downs."

"You saw a lot of schools fall off," he added. "But Xavier has been there the whole time through the duration. Chris knew that from the beginning."

Davis is Xavier's first verbal pledge in the 2013 recruiting class.
