Payton Dastrup, 6-8 JR C Mesa (Ariz.) Mountain View, is a very promising young big man with a good frame, great hands and excellent fundamentals. He projects as one of the top post prospects in the West Coast class of 2014.

I spoke with Dastrup recently and asked about the schools that have been in contact with him.

"I've been hearing from Arizona State, Arizona, Oklahoma, Stanford, Utah State, BYU, UC Santa Barbara, Virginia, Washington State and Oregon," said Dastrup. "Utah State has offered."

Dastrup is a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints, so it's no surprise which school was his favorite at an early age.

"Growing up, I really liked BYU," said Dastrup. "But I'm more open now that I'm playing and getting recruited."

I asked Dastrup if he has any schools in mind for visits.

"I'd like to see Stanford, Virginia and Oklahoma," said Dastrup.

Dastrup said he's in no hurry to choose a school.

"I'll probably wait until my senior year," said Dastrup.

Dastrup said he has a 3.4 GPA.
