USA Profile: Maarty Leunen

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Maarty Leunen is used to the altitude but conceded even the air in Colorado Springs got to him. The forward shares his thoughts about his recruitment with us.

"It doesn't really get to me," West forward Maarty Leunen said. "I'm from Redmond. But, it did get to me the first day."

In Leunen's first game out in Colorado Springs, his West team lost to the East 134-124. Leunen didn't get a lot of shots up but did finish with 5 points, 5 boards and 2 assists in the loss.

During the spring and into the summer, he's emerged as the prime target of four schools. Oregon, Oregon State, California and Gonzaga have already offered and sit atop his list. He's talked with UCLA, Arizona, Kansas and Duke but none of those programs have put the offer out there.

"There's not too much pressure [to commit]," Leunen said. "The guys that offered, they'll still be with me [through the summer]. They'll have faith in me."

Leunen said that he doesn't really have a leader entering the July period and would like to keep an open mind about the four schools.

"You're going to be going there for four years. You have to enjoy the coaches and where you're living."
