Barnette goes with Virginia

Taylor Barnette is headed to the ACC. The sharp shooting guard out of Kentucky committed to Virginia.

Taylor Barnette found his new home on Friday.

Barnette, a 6-foot-3 guard out of Lexington (Ky.) Christian Academy, verbally pledged to Tony Bennett and his staff at Virginia during an official visit.

"I love coach Bennett and the whole entire staff," Barnette told Scout.com. "They're in the ACC. The campus is awesome and I'll be getting a great education."

Barnette said the visit played a major role in his decision.

"I love the players that I've been around and got to hang out with on my visit," Barnette said. "My sister goes here and it's been a great experience visiting."

Before committing to Virginia, Barnette took unofficial visits to Miami-Ohio and Kentucky. He also had interest from Samford, Dayton and a host of other schools.

"I"m really excited to have it over with," he said. "It's been stressful, but it's been a blessing. It's been a fun ride."

A three-star prospect, Barnette averaged 20 points and nearly seven rebounds a game, prior to an ankle injury that forced him to miss the last six weeks of his senior season.

Barnette originally signed with Central Florida in the early signing period, but opted out of his Letter of Intent in early April.

Barnette's sister, Sarah Beth, is a sophomore on Virginia's womens basketball team.
