Running with The Family, Matthews has made a big impression. Alongside James Young, Matthews has combined to make one of the best wing duos on the entire AAU circuit, and now coaches are taking notice.
"I've been playing good, but I can always play better," said Matthews. "We have been winning so that is a plus."
His height combined with his athleticism, ability to handle the ball, and scoring ability make Matthews one of the more versatile prospects in the country. With that the recruiting attention has picked up.
With that four schools are sticking out to him above the rest.
"I would have to say Indiana, Arizona, Xavier, and USC standout to me," he noted.
A recent offer came from Arizona, led by assistant coach Book Richardson. Even though it is far from home, Matthews says it was big for him to land the offer.
"I felt really blessed because Arizona is a great program," he explained. "It was an honor and it made me want to work even harder."
When it comes to Xavier, Matthews likes the style of play, and how their guards have freedom within the offense.
"They are guard dominated and their coaches let them play," explained Matthews. "Also they have been recruiting me for a long time."
Indiana is yet to offer, but still the Hoosiers hold a spot near the top of his list because of the type of program that they have had for years.
"They are a tough team with a great history," said Matthews of the Hoosiers. "They have great players there as well."
At this point Matthews isn't rushing into anything, but he does have a good idea of what he will be looking for in a program when the time comes to make a decision.
"Just I am looking for a team that likes to run and is guard dominated and lets their guards play free," he explained.
Currently Matthews is listed at the No. 74 prospect in the 2013 class.
