Early Favorite For Brett Hoerner
Brett Hoerner, 6-9 JR PF Fullerton (Calif.) High, is a very promising big man who currently ranks among the top post players in the West Coast class of 2005. Hoerner is an excellent shot blocker and has recently shown the ability to step outside and consistently knock down shots. He needs to add weight and strength, but he has a chance to be an elite player down the road. We spoke with Hoerner on Saturday at the UC Irvine team camp and asked him if there are any early leaders in his recruiment. "UCLA is my favorite," said Hoerner. "I want to stay close to home so my parents can see me play." Hoerner went on to say that his family are UCLA fans -- so much so that when crosstown rival USC expressed interest, Hoerner's father jokingly said, "oh no -- not an option." When questioned about other schools, Hoerner said "Arizona has showed some interest." We asked about the factors that will influence his decision and Hoerner replied, "Academics will be a factor and good coaching. UCLA has a new coach in Howland and he did good work at Pittsburgh." Hoerner said it's possible that he could make an early decision. "I might commit early," said Hoerner. Hoerner hasn't taken any unofficial visits yet, but plans on taking one soon. "My Dad is going to call Donny Daniels and we'll go up to UCLA to tour the campus," said Hoerner. When asked about his academic status, Hoerner said he has a 3.0 GPA.
