UA Dallas: Breakout Performers

DUNCANVILLE, Tex. -- Damonte Dodd was among the breakout performers at the Are You From Here Classic. Who else broke out? breaks it down.

Quick Take: At 6-foot-9, 235-pounds, Dodd, a Maryland commit, had a solid weekend for DC Assault at the Are You From Here Classic. In my first look, Dodd ran the floor, contested shots and was a live body throughout the contest. In the second look, he was much of the same. He dunked drop off passes, rebounded his area and played with energy. For a guy that was built up as a project, Dodd is far from that. Mark Turgeon and his staff have a lot to work with, as Dodd has the tools to one day be an effective post player.

Quick Take: Being a BYU commit, Haws isn't exactly unknown, but he certainly qualifies as a breakout performer. The 6-foot-3 combo guard switched on and off the ball with Nick Emery this weekend, but was more effective with the ball in his hands. A crafty handler, Haws found his way into the paint, got to the free throw line and made shots. He's capable of scoring on his way to the rim, but also has a consistent stroke from long range.

Quick Take: Although he's just a 2015 prospect, Jones managed to standout at the Are You From Here Classic. At 6-foot-6, Jones has a long, wiry frame, good mobility and impressive athleticism. He blocks shots, scored in transition and finished well around the rim. Jones is currently in between positions, but he doesn't appear done growing so his future spot on the floor will depend on his physical growth, but also his skill development.

Quick Take: Although he didn't get a ton of burn for DC Assault, when Fields, a 6-foot-5 strongly built wing, was on the floor he took advantage of his time. In my first viewing, Fields did his damage off strong drives and in transition. Then in a playoff game on Sunday, Fields got hot from long range and pumped in three-pointers. Fields, who reportedly has impressive grades, is a prospect that mid-major schools should look into.

Quick Take: Behind a valiant effort from this 6-foot-6 wing the Dallas Showtyme squad stormed through the 16's division and won the title. An athletic and bouncy forward, Allen seemed to make plays all over the floor every time I took in a Showtyme game. While he's active in the paint and around the rim, his jump shoot looks good and he was able to work in mid to long range shots throughout their championship run.
