Recruitment stays busy for Walker

Five-star prospect Chris Walker has elite high-majors heavily involved in his recruitment.

Five-star prospect Chris Walker is clearly one of the elite players in the country. The Florida Rams big man has been dominant at times during the spring, and it should be no surprise that his recruitment continues to progress and more schools are becoming seriously involved.

At 6-foot-11 with unique athleticism, Walker can be tough to handle on the interior for opponents, and that has been on display all spring long.

"The spring so far has been good," said Walker. "I am just trying to show that I can catch the ball, face up, play as hard as I can, and just be the motor for the team."

He continued, "My focus has been on rebounding. Rebounding is an important part of my game, and I just try and go out and get as many as I can."

Recruiting wise at times Walker has seemed close to making a decision, but at least for right now he is in no hurry to issue a commitment.

"The recruiting part is going well," said Walker. "I have talked to Kentucky, Florida, Kansas, Baylor, Syracuse, and Ohio State."

Most of the schools on his list have offered, though at the moment one still has not.

"Kentucky hasn't offered me yet, but that they are still recruiting me," said Walker. "They are going to keep watching me play. Coach Orlando (Antigua) has been calling me and stuff, but they haven't offered yet."

While UK hasn't offered, the Ohio State Buckeyes have, and Walker continues to think highly of the Big Ten program.

"I like the way Coach Thad Matta coaches his players," said Walker. "If I went there I think I could be a big part of their team, and they have done a good job of recruiting me."

Also every weekend Walker gets a recruiting pitch from two of his friends. Kasey Hill is headed to Florida while shooting guard Brannen Greene is off to Kansas. Those two Florida Ram teammates make sure to tell Walker they want him to join their respective team.

"Florida and Kansas are the two schools probably recruiting me the hardest," said Walker. "Kasey is going to Florida and he is definitely talking to me about it, and it would be great to be his teammate in the future. Brannen and I are also talking about Kansas and I really like their coaches and their fans."

For now Walker says he hopes to make some visits during the summer, and he is in no rush to make his decision. He does however have a good idea of what he will be looking for in a school.

"I am looking for a school with good academics, a school that is used to winning, and good coaches who I have a relationship with," said Walker.
