Myers Has Options

2013 forward Hunter Myers will be weighing academics as well as basketball when he makes his college choice...

Hunter Myers, 6-6 JR SF/PF Minden (Nev.) Douglas, is among the better forwards in the west for 2013. A very good shooter, with big hops and an excellent feel for the game, Myers is also a terrific student. He's being recruited by some of the top schools in the country.

"I'm hearing from Stanford, Harvard, Cal, Arizona and Yale primarily," said Myers. "Cal has offered."

I asked Myers if any school stands out for him at this time.

"No, I'm completely undecided," said Myers.

I asked Myers what he is looking for in a school.

"I want to major in engineering, so a good engineering program will be important," said Myers. "And of course a good basketball program. The location doesn't really matter, but I am looking for a system that fits me."

Myers has taken several unofficial visits already.

"I've been to Harvard, Yale, Cal, Stanford and Nevada," said Myers.

With Pac-12 and Ivy League schools on his list, I asked Myers for his thoughts on the differences between the two conferences.

"The Pac-12 is obviously more basketball oriented and then you have the academics of the Ivy schools," said Myers. "I need to figure out what I want more."

Myers said he has a 4.5 GPA and he will be the valedictorian of his class.
