St. John's adds big piece to 2012 class

The St. John's Red Storm landed another four-star pledge in the 2012 class.

St. John's landed a highly touted class in the 2011 class, though some of it didn't pan out. Now again the Red Storm are bringing in a talented class, now with the addition of Chris Obekpa to an already very strong class.

At 6-foot-8 Obekpa is one of the best shot blockers in the class of 2012. He attended Centereach (NY) Our Saviour New American for the past two seasons where his athleticism and strength made him a force.

A very strong summer and high school season put Obekpa into the top 100, and eventually he finished as the No. 63 player in the country and a four-star prospect.

In the end Obekpa's decision came down to St. John's, Cincinnati, Oregon, DePaul, and Providence with the Red Storm winning out.

Obekpa personally announced his decision on twitter and showed a picture of himself wearing St. John's gear.

By committing, Obekpa joins four-star prospect Jakarr Sampson as well as three-star prospects Darrick Wood and Felix Balamou. Also junior college prospects Orlando Sanchez and Marco Bourgault are in the class.
