Illinois lands commitment

John Groce scored a commitment from Maverick Morgan on Wednesday. The talented big man broke down his decision with Scout.com.

Illinois added their second 2013 pledge Wednesday morning.

Maverick Morgan, of Springboro (Ohio) High, gave John Groce and his staff a commitment just a day after visiting Illinois.

"I was on campus all day yesterday," Morgan said. "Everything lined up for me."

A 6-foot-10, 240-pound center, Morgan strongly considered Vanderbilt, Dayton, Xavier, Wisconsin and Minnesota before settling on Illinois.

"That whole staff I've known for over a year when they were at OU," Morgan told Scout.com. "We've built a relationship. They recruited me then stopped recruiting me when they didn't think I'd go to OU."

"It was really on when he was at OU," Morgan continued. "But he didn't think I would go to OU. But as soon as he got to Illinois it picked right back up again."

Morgan, a three-star recruit, said he likes Groce's vision and where the direction of the Illinois program.

"I think he's moving that program in the right direction," he said. "He did big things at OU and I think he will do big things here."

Morgan joins 2013 wing Malcolm Hill to make up Illinois current 2013 recruiting class.
