Hood closes in on decision

The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Duke Blue Devils don't have much longer to wait for the decision of Rodney Hood.

The roster at the Kevin Durant Skills Academy lists Mississippi State as the college for Rodney Hood. However that won't be the case very much longer. The former five-star prospect will have a decision on where he is transferring shortly.

As a freshman at Mississippi State, Hood put up very solid numbers. The 6-foot-8 versatile forward averaged 10.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting 36 percent from three and 44 percent overall.

Hood says he grew up a lot during his freshman year at Mississippi State, but at the end of the day it was right for him to transfer.

"I grew a lot mentally," said Hood. "Basketball wise I grew, but I grew more off the court. It was an up and down for us on the court, but I definitely grew from my experience. Still it was right for me to move on."

Now two schools are firmly in the mix for Hood, and a decision is coming soon.

"Last weekend I took my last visit to Duke. I should have a decision the day after I come home from this camp," said Hood. "We are going to sit down as a family and make my decision. It is between Duke and Ohio State."

Hood should return from Chicago to his home early on Wednesday meaning a decision could come that day or possibly on Thursday. During the family talk on where to go, Hood expects a lot of opinions to be shared.

"It's going to be the truth," Hood explained. "I have to be honest with myself. This time around it is going to be about what I need and not what I want. I am sure there will be tough love thrown around the room between me and my family."

Ohio State has Hood's AAU teammate and friend LaQuinton Ross already on the team, and he says the coaching staff has done an excellent job of recruiting him.

"The coaching staff, that is what draws me to them," said Hood of Ohio State. "When I went on the visit I got along with the players. It is a great set up for me on and off the court. Also I have some friends already there, so I think it would be a smooth transition."

When it comes to Duke, Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski is the biggest selling point.

"Duke is self explanatory," Hood explained. "Coach K is the best coach in college basketball, and their assistant coaches are also great at developing pros. Duke is just the highest level of college basketball."

One of the most important transfers of the college basketball season is getting close to an announcement, and Duke and Ohio State are both hoping for the best.
