Known more as a scorer than distributor, Powell found the Deron Williams Skills Academy to be very valuable as a learning experience.
"It was good," said Powell of the camp. "I think I did a good job and I learned a lot. It was good for my game."
Currently Powell has high-major offers from UCF, Memphis, Virginia Tech, Seton Hall, Miami, Penn State, Virginia, Mississippi State, and Cincinnati. Also interest is coming in from Florida State, Alabama, Butler, and South Florida.
Alabama is yet to offer, but the Crimson Tide are saying they want Powell to see what they have to offer on campus.
"They are just saying that I could fit in well with the program and they want me to come up for a visit," said Powell. "I think I will take one of my visits there."
While Alabama is yet to offer, SEC rival Mississippi State has made it clear they think of Powell as a guard who can really help them in the future.
"They just say that they want me and they think I would fit in with their style," said Powell. "I am getting to know the new coaching staff, I want to visit them."
While those two schools are the in south, one school from the north who is very interested is Cincinnati.
"I think they are a good school," he said of the Bearcats. "It is kind of far from home, but that isn't something that really bothers me."
At this point Powell doesn't have any visits planned, but is hoping to make some following the July evaluation period. While he is now talking to coaches and evaluating programs, he knows what he is paying attention to in a school.
"I am just looking for a school that fits my game and a place where I think I can be a point guard and help my team win," said Powell.
