Allen Considering All Options

Marcus Allen, a talented senior combo guard out of Las Vegas, has a big decision to make...

Marcus Allen, 6-2 SR PG/SG Las Vegas (Nev.) Centennial, is an explosive athlete with a chance to play either guard spot in college. His brother Malcolm is also a promising prospect and it had been thought that the two were definitely going to be a package when choosing a college. However, Marcus told us over the weekend that a package deal isn't necessarily set in stone.

"I'm not sure what we're going to do," said Allen. "It will depend on what kind of offers we get in the future. We'll sit down and talk about it after the summer."

Allen said the main schools recruiting him so far have been Rice, Northern Arizona, Santa Clara, Drake, most of the Ivy League schools, San Francisco, Wyoming and San Diego. He said each school has offered.

I asked Allen if there are any other schools involved in his recruitment.

"I've also been talking to Stanford (mom is a Stanford grad), Georgia Tech and Wake Forest," said Allen. "But I'm wide open. I'm going to narrow it down after July."

When asked if there are any other schools he'd like to be hearing from, Allen replied, "I'm really happy with all of the schools that have been showing me interest, but the Pac-12 would be nice also."

I asked Allen what he's looking for in a school. "The education first and foremost," said Allen. "The coaching staff is a huge piece of the puzzle. I'm going to be there for four years, so the staff and players that I can mix with are important."

Allen said he doesn't want to draw his recruitment out any longer than necessary.

"I don't want to wait it out," said Allen. "I will decide before the season starts."

When asked if early playing time is a big consideration, Allen replied, "It would be nice to contribute as a freshman, but it depends on the school."

Allen said he has a 4.8 GPA.
