Summer Jam: Top Performers

MEQUON, Wisc. -- Six guys -- Emmanuel Mudiay, Kevon Looney, Eric Mika, T.J. Haws, Ben Bentil & Matt Thomas -- stood above the rest at the NY2LA Sports Summer Jam.

Quick Take: The strong, physical post prospect had a strong weekend in Mequon at the Summer Jam. With his future coach Dave Rose looking on, Mika showed a nasty streak in the paint. He made the backboard a priority, mixed it up with opposing big men and showed some scoring ability when he got touches. After sitting out last season, Mika looks primed for a strong senior campaign.

Quick Take: You won't find many shooters in the 2013 class that compare to Thomas, a 6-foot-4 guard headed to Iowa State. In the two games I watched Thomas, he was an impressive 12-for-19 from behind the three-point stripe. He has great shot preparation, shoots well on the move and has range on his shot. For the WI Playmakers he's forced to spend time on the ball and that has helped his overall development.

Quick Take: His effort on Saturday was the best I've seen him play. Mudiay handled the ball with care and constantly found his teammates for open looks. He's made an effort to cut down on silly turnovers and that has been clear the past few viewings. His vision is outstanding. Mudiay has great physical attributes, as he stands 6-foot-3, has good speed and is a very good athlete.

Quick Take: Over the course of the spring and summer, Looney has received plenty of ink and rightfully so. He's dominated the competition at times. At 6-foot-8, Looney is a lengthy face up four-man that is much stronger than he looks. He's valuable in a variety of ways, but his ability to reel in offensive boards and pursue the ball off the glass is arguably where he brings the most value. He's a tough kid that's equipped with plenty of talent. His recent move into Scout's top 10 was earned and he clearly has aspirations of staying among the elite.

Quick Take: A top 50 prospect, Bentil proved worthy of his ranking in a showdown with KC Run GMC. The 6-foot-8 power forward runs the floor with purpose, aggressively pursues rebounds and contests shots on the defensive end. For a stretch in the second half against the boys from Kansas City, Bentil scored at will, using his strength to gain position and scoring with his right hand.

Quick Take: His decision making, toughness and passing ability all stood out for Utah Reign this weekend. A 6-foot-2 guard, Haws is a high IQ guy that seems to always make the right play. He's deceptively quick and has a strong handle that leaves defenders off balance at times. Toss in his jump shot and you have a high major level talent.
