Young hoping to make visits

Four-star forward Mike Young still is keep a fairly open mind in his recruitment, though some visits should be coming up shortly.

Four-star power forward Mike Young was a very solid at the recent Peach Jam. Playing the post for the Playaz Basketball Club, Young put up good numbers, and did well against some of the top players in the country. Now Young is looking to start taking some visits.

Recently Young made the decision to narrow his recruiting focus some, but according to Young nothing is set in stone.

"Just a little bit," said Young of narrowing his list. "My list is around eight or nine. I just recently got an offer from Connecticut, but my list is around eight or nine. I cut it down, but I really didn't cut it down."

According to Young he has seen several schools tracking his games closely during the month of July.

"Connecticut, Florida, St. John's, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Xavier, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, and Syracuse have all been watching me," Young explained.

The most recent offer was from Connecticut, and Young says it was big to get the former national champs showing him attention.

"It means a lot, and it is showing me that all of my hard work during the high school season is paying off," explained Young. "I have been working on my game all summer, and with Coach (Jim) Calhoun offering me a scholarship it shows that everything is paying off for me."

Also the offer from the Florida Gators is one he has paid specific attention to.

"Florida offered during the high school season," Young explained. "They just have been telling me to keep playing hard, and that they would love to get me down on campus for a visit."

While Young currently goes to school in New Jersey, he is originally from the Pittsburgh area. He will head back home after the AAU season, and that will give him a chance to check out a few other schools.

"I have taken visits to Pittsburgh and West Virginia, but I want to get back to those two schools," said Young. "Also I want to make a visit to Connecticut, Xavier, and Memphis."

With him growing up in the Pittsburgh area, Young is familiar with the rivalry between Pitt and West Virginia, and says he just likes to check those places out and get a good feel for each campus.

"They are local schools," Young explained. "With me living in New Jersey I never get to see them. When I get home after AAU I like to get down there and see their schools so I can get comfortable with the campuses and both coaching staffs."

Also only a few hours from Pittsburgh is Xavier. The school Cincinnati area school has recently picked up the recruitment of Young, and he says he wants to see what they have to offer.

"I have never been to the campus or anywhere near the area," said Young of Xavier. "They are recruiting me and I am interested, so I just want to see what it is looking like."

Currently the No. 85 prospect in the country doesn't have a timetable for any decision, but he does have a good idea of what he is looking for when he is on each campus.

"It's not so much what I am looking for, I am just paying attention to if I am comfortable and the vibe I get," Young explained. "I want to see if I am comfortable around the team and if it is a place I could be for four years."
