Allen, a 6-foot-4 guard, showed up at the Big Shots event in Myrtle Beach to play with Douglas Brothers Elite. By the end of the event, Allen had become one of the most talked about prospects of the first evaluation period.
"I was extremely surprised," Allen told Scout.com. "I never thought any of this would happen."
Shortly after the event the calls began to pour in. Then Allen went to Augusta (Ga.) to participate in the Peach State event for the second period. College coaches showed up in droves to evaluate the Riverview (Fla.) Providence standout.
"It was great," Allen said of the experience. "It was really exciting. It was fun to go to. It was fun to get all of those calls. It hasn't gotten old yet."
"I just went out there and played my normal game," Allen added. "I think it was just being at the right place at the right time where people were able to see me play."
A tremendous athlete, Allen is capable of highlight reels dunks, but he's also a shot maker from both mid-range and three.
"When I'm playing my best, my outside shot and pull-up jumper is falling," Allen explained. "Then the defense has to come up on me and then I can use my athleticism to get by them and finish at the rim."
Although it just began, Allen's recruitment is beginning to take shape.
"Florida and Florida State are recruiting me pretty hard," he said. "They have both offered. Georgia, Purdue, Texas and N.C. State have all offered. Miami offered too. Then I've been talking to Alabama, Indiana and a couple of other schools."
Thus far, Allen has taken one unofficial visit.
"I'm definitely towards the beginning of it because it all just happened and happened so fast," Allen said. "I'm starting to look more into it. I've made one unofficial so far to Florida State and I'm going to take another one soon."
How was the trip to FSU?
"It was great," Allen said. "I loved it there. All those coaches are really good people to be around."
Next up for Allen is Florida. According to a source, Allen will be in Gainesville for an unofficial visit the weekend of August 25th.
He also said he'll be paying close attention to the teams recruiting him during the basketball season.
"I'm definitely going to be watching a lot during the upcoming basketball season," he said. "[I'll] watch their playing style to see if I could see myself playing there."
Allen entered Scout.com's 2014 post-July top 75 at No. 41 overall and as the No. 6 shooting guard in the class.
