Recruiting Notebook

News was aplenty over the weekend. Dayshawn Watkins, Juwan Parker and Terrance O'Donohue all made commitments, while UCLA had three high-level visitors on campus and Louisville added to their 2012 class.

Watkins makes his pick

Dayshawn Watkins surprised many when he ended his recruitment on Saturday.

Watkins, a 6-foot guard out of Jacksonville (Ark.) North Pulaski, committed to Jerod Haase and UAB.

"I had a good relationship with the head coach and I felt that he can get me to the next level being a point guard and he also coached and helped point guard's like Kendall Marshall, Ty Lawson and Bobby Frasor get to the next level," Watkins told

He also cited style of play as one of the main reasons for picking UAB. Watkins, a three-star prospect, also considered strong interest from Arizona State, Dayton, Butler and Wichita State.

UCLA has visitors

After scoring the No. 2 class in the country in the 2012 class, UCLA is trying to build off their momentum.

Over the weekend they had three significant visitors on campus. Top 50 power forward prospect Marcus Lee was the only 2013 player in Westwood (Calif.).

A source said the visit was an unofficial and that it "went pretty good."

UCLA is one of the seven schools on Lee's list. He's also considering California, Duke, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky and Louisville. Lee is scheduled to visit Louisville the weekend of September 8th, Kentucky on Oct. 12th and Indiana on Oct. 20th.

UCLA also had a pair of 2014 top 25 prospects on campus. Jordan McLaughlin and Parker Jackson-Cartwright both took unofficial visits to UCLA over the weekend.

Louisville adds 2012 big man

Louisville adds a late enrollee.

Mangok Mathiang, of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, qualified academically and met with the Louisville team on Sunday. He's expected to begin taking classes at Louisville on Monday.

At this stage there are still some hurdles to clear, as Louisville still has not commented on the new recruit. Assuming he gets cleared to play, some expect Mathiang to redshirt his first season.

Mathiang joins top 100 recruit Montrezl Harrell to make up Louisville's 2012 class.
