Giles Gets Big Looks

The 6-10 center from Seattle, C.J. Giles, claims to have offers from some pretty big hitters in the college basketball world, including Kansas and Arizona. He talks about his favorites...

C.J. Giles, 6-10 SR C, Seattle (Wash.) Rainier Beach, was considered this spring as one of the players in the 2004 west coast class that could improve his stock the most. At the Adidas ABCD Camp, however, he severely bruised his ankle bone and couldn't play for the majority of the camp.

To his credit, Giles kept wanting to play every day at ABCD, but the bruise was pretty severe.

As for recruiting, it seems like that minor setback hasn't set back interest in him from college coaches.

He said that Kansas, USC, Washington, Miami, Oregon, Arizona and UCLA have all offered him scholarships. "Those are all of my favorites," Giles said, "And they've all offered me. I think the top five would be Kansas, USC, Washington, Miami and Oregon."

Giles said that USC is recruiting him the hardest at this point. There had been a rumor in spring that he had verbally committed to USC, but Giles denied it.

Asked what schools he'd like to officially visit, Giles said, "Those five favorites, except I'd like to visit Arizona instead of Washington. I'm so close to Washington that I've been there unofficially so many times I feel I don't have to take an official visit there."

Giles will take his time and probably wait right up until the signing period in November to make a decision. "I want to take all my trips, so that could take some time. And I don't want to rush into anything," he said.

When asked what he was looking for in a school, Giles said: "Somewhere I can come in and play, but not start. I'd like it if there was a big guy there who was older and I could learn from him."

Giles said he had a GPA over 3.0 and scored a passing 880 on his SAT.
