Lawrence reflects on summer

Five-star Jermaine Lawrence talks about where things currently stand with his recruitment.

A transfer of high schools and subsequent big summer has made Jermaine Lawrence a five-star prospect. The Sparta (NJ) Pope John XXIII standout is becoming one of the most heavily recruited prospects in the nation, but at least for now he isn't quite ready to narrow things down.

At 6-foot-9 with the ability to knock in shots from deep, a solid handle, and excellent athleticism, there is just very little that Lawrence isn't capable of doing. He put it all on display this summer, and overall he feels it was a good experience for him.

"This summer was alright," said Lawrence. "Aside from my injuries I guess I did pretty good, and recruiting wise I got a lot more interest so that was good."

While Lawrence was receiving some recruiting attention before the spring, it came in a big way following April. Now Lawrence says his phone is quite busy.

"It is alright to have all of the coaches calling me," said Lawrence. "It is really difficult right now trying to figure out which college will be right for me. It is still a process right now and I am just going with it."

He continued, "I am hearing from Cincinnati, St. John's, Syracuse, Florida, UNLV, West Virginia, and a lot of others."

One school talked about quite a bit with Lawrence is Syracuse. The Orange seem to have him as a priority, and he has a high interest in the school.

"I like how they use their big men," said Lawrence of Syracuse. "They know how to use their power forwards in their offense so I like that. In general I think I fit into their system."

Also the Florida Gators continue to show him major recruiting attention and remain in the mix for his services.

"I haven't watched them play a lot, but I am doing my homework on them," he explained. "I do like the coaching staff though and they have been recruiting me pretty hard."

Beyond them, the Cincinnati Bearcats have been a constant on Lawrence's list since April. He says UC is one of the schools definitely in the mix.

"I like that they are a tough team," said Lawrence. "Also they get up and down the floor, but they are such a tough team and I like that."

At this point Lawrence isn't ready to cut down his list and says he probably went set up any official visits for a few more weeks.

While Lawrence is admittedly having a tough time cutting down his list, the No. 14 overall prospect does say he has a clear idea of what he is looking for in a school.

"I look for an up-tempo offense and I have to be comfortable with the school and the coaching staff," he said.
