Just The Facts: Grimes, Kaun, Gibson

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – Tuesday was a busy day in college basketball on the national level as some significant things happened with Kalen Grimes, Daniel Gibson and Alexander Kaun.

Grimes To Play At Missouri

The Missouri Tigers have landed a player from our pre-summer Top 50. Center Kalen Grimes committed to the Tigers sometime Tuesday afternoon as news began to leak out from the Nike Peach Jam. Grimes had been considering the Tigers and Illinois after Kansas took a commitment from Darnell Jackson last Friday.

Gibson Wavering On UT Commitment?

Point guard Daniel Gibson tells the Texas staff that he's still coming to Austin, but there's a gray area. Rumors swirled at the Peach Jam that Gibson might be re-opening his recruitment. We caught up with him in the evening.

"I'm still going to Texas as of now," Gibson said. "You commit early and sometimes you think back on your decision. I'm just wondering if I made the right decision."

Basically, there would be plenty of interested parties and you might see him connected with some schools in the coming days. However, our best guess here is that there is just one school that could threaten Texas: North Carolina.

We asked Gibson for a list of schools he would be interested in but the guard didn't want to reveal them. He then offered up the Tar Heels and spoke about them. He's been a fan of their program for a while and likes them. Roy Williams had Kansas positioned as a finalist when he was in Lawrence. While there's been no contact with the UNC staff and Gibson to date, UNC staffers have been spotted at his games this week.

We presented him with a hypothetical question dealing with what would happen if the Tar Heels offered him a scholarship. Would he says "no thanks", commit to a visit or commit on the spot? Gibson answered that he would take a visit.

We'll keep you posted on the latest developments as the week unfolds here in North Augusta.

Kaun Down To Five Schools

As Alexander Kaun nurses a foot injury and watches his Nike Team Florida squad from the sidelines, five programs should feel good about themselves heading into the middle of the month. In fact, the native of Siberia eliminated two schools and has his list trimmed to a manageable handful.

Still in the hunt are Michigan State, Michigan, Kansas, Duke and Florida. Each school was represented in the gym today.

Kaun admitted that he's still gathering information about the schools. "I want to visit the school first [before committing] so I know more about it. I have to visit the school first before I can say something."

Slowly, he's learning about each program but it takes time. He said he's working on sorting out the differences in the style of play of each program.
