A High Major Import

The Big Time was really the first glimpse that most scouts and many college coaches had of the talented small forward Serge Angounou, and he made the most of it...

Serge Angounou, 6-6 SR SF, Albuquerque (New Mexico) Rio Grande, is originally from Cameroon. He came here last November, "to get an education and play some basketball," according to Angounou. Angounou came to New Mexico since that's where his uncle resides.

Mostly unknown and unseen, Angounou proved that he's a high major player at the Big Time. He has good size, can shoot the ball out beyond the arc, has good athleticism and plays hard. His shot is a bit funky, but it goes in very consistently. In fact, he's probably one of the best shooters for a small forward in the west coast senior class.

Angounou said that Arizona State, Arizona, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Wyoming and UTEP are recruiting him. But if he had to pick a school right now, he'd pick Arizona State.

Angounou is also an intelligent kid, speaking well, even though English is his second language. He also said he carries a 3.8 GPA. He hasn't take the SAT yet but plans to this spring.
