Marquis Kately, 6-6 SR SF, San Francisco (Calif.) Riordan, has always been an incredible athlete, but his basketball skills are definitely developing, placing him among the best prospects in the west coast senior class.
Kately also will admit that college coaches might have stayed away in the past because of the perception that he would be a longshot to qualify academically. But now, Kately says he has a good shot to qualify. "I did really well at the end of last year in school," Kately said. He wasn't able to tell us his GPA, but he said, "It's definitely better than it was."
Kately also said that he took the SAT in June, but hadn't received the score as of yet.
If he gets his academics in order, as he says he will, Kately will have just about his pick of colleges. Currently, Cal is recruiting him the hardest and, according to Kately, have offered him a scholarship. He said he's also hearing from UCLA, North Carolina, Arizona and Florida. If he had to take his official visits right now, he said those would be the five he would visit.
Kately said he'd go anywhere that was a good fit for him, but he liked the idea of staying close to home. "It'd be good to stay home," he said. "Be able to play in front of your family and friends."
