Playing with the New York Lightning on the EYBL circuit, Smith was able to be seen by lots of people, and overall he feels things went well.
"I think it was a good summer," said Smith. "It could have been better had we won more games, but overall it was a good summer."
He continued, "Individually I feel I played well and against some good talent. I think I showed people what I can do. I showed the most improvement in being a true point guard and not just a scorer. That is where I think my game grew the most."
Recruiting wise there is no shortage of schools showing him attention.
"Right now I haven't cut my list down," said Smith. "Some of the new schools involved are Memphis and Indiana. Other schools are close to offering like Providence, Pittsburgh, Kansas State, and Penn State."
The first visit for Smith will be to Providence. He is visiting on Tuesday unofficially, and on the trip he is hoping to get an offer.
One school that should get an official visit is Illinois. For Smith he likes the coaching staff and how his game would fit their style of play.
"The program has good history," said Smith of the Illini. "They have a new coaching staff from Ohio University. They made the tournament last year and I really believe those guys know what they are doing with point guards. It is a school I want to see and an opportunity I definitely don't want to pass up in seeing what they have to offer."
A school that hasn't offered, but has been in close contact is Pittsburgh. Smith says things are progressing well with the Panthers.
"Pitt has been recruiting me like I am a main priority but they haven't offered me," said Smith. "I am not sure the hold up, but I know they have been recruiting me hard like those that have offered me scholarships. Me and Coach (Jamie) Dixon have multiple conversations. He wants me to come in and play, so if they offer me a scholarship from there I will check it out."
In terms of a timeline for a decision, right now nothing is set in stone for Smith.
"Right now I am not even sure," he explained. "I want to decide early, but then I don't because I would want coaches to come in for my teammates. Whenever I feel most comfortable is when I will make my decision."
