Plenty Of Interest For Cartwright

Robert Cartwright, one of the top point guards in the west for 2014, has seen his recruitment expand after a series of stellar performances in July...

Robert Cartwright, 6-1 JR PG La Canada (Calif.) Flintridge Prep, is one of the elite prospects in a loaded West Coast class of point guards in 2014. A true point, Cartwright has an outstanding feel for the game, with excellent vision and passing ability. He's got very good lateral quickness and he's a really good, and willing, defender. He's also got a solid stroke with range to the stripe.

I spoke with Cartwright's father, Bob Cartwright, recently and he gave me an update on his son's recruitment.

"He's hearing a lot from Rice and San Diego," said Mr. Cartwright. "Both schools have been in touch a lot and both have offered. Eastern Washington has also offered. He's been hearing quite a bit from Arizona State and Boise State. USC and Gonzaga have been calling. In terms of the Ivy schools, Harvard, Penn and Columbia have been in touch, as has St. Mary's, Pepperdine, Bucknell, Drake and Utah State."

The Cartwrights visited San Diego in early August for an unofficial visit and I asked how that trip went.

"They made a very positive impression," said Mr. Cartwright. "He really liked the staff and the campus. He felt very good about them."

Mr. Cartwright said Rice is another school that has made an impression.

"He has the same kind of feelings about Rice," said Mr. Cartwright. "They have been talking about having us come out there, but it's hard with school starting. Coach Braun and Coach Cohen will be coming to Flintridge in September to see Robert."

I asked Mr. Cartwright if the plan is for Robert to take his time with his recruitment.

"Yes, I want him to see some campuses and make sure he makes an informed decision," said Mr. Cartwright. "I want him to feel like he has the information he needs to decide."
