Top 100 Jones picks Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt picked up a top 100 prospect Sunday morning. Damian Jones, a talented 6-foot-9 post prospect, gave the Commodores a pledge during an official visit.

Damian Jones ended his recruitment Sunday morning.

During an official visit to Vanderbilt, Jones, a 6-foot-9, 215-pound power forward out of Baton Rouge (La.) Scotlandville Magnet, gave Kevin Stallings and his staff a verbal pledge.

Jones confirmed the news to Scout.com.

"I liked the players and the coaches," Jones said. "The players are nice and I like the area."

"I liked the city," Jones added. "The city was really nice."

Jones took an official visit to Oklahoma last weekend. He also considered interest from Stanford, Duke, Kansas, Florida, Oklahoma State, Georgia, Alabama and a host of other schools.

Vanderbilt assistant coach David Cason was the point man on Jones' recruitment. Jones said that relationship played into his decision.

"We talk pretty often," Jones said. "At least twice a week. We just talked about coming on a visit and things in general."

With this commitment, Vanderbilt now has their first commitment of the 2013 recruiting class. Jones is capable of helping the Commodores on the interior with his athleticism, size and length.

As a junior, Jones helped Scotlandville to a 5A championship by averaging eight points, eight rebounds and four blocks per game.

Jones is ranked No. 100 overall in the 2013 class.
