"I committed to Drake," Boyd said. "I went out there for a visit and I had a great time. I felt real comfortable with the guys and had a great time with the coaches.
"I talked to the athletic director and had a heart to heart talk with him and everything just clicked for me. They had a whole plan for me, how I'll progress from my freshman to sophomore to junior to senior year.
"It was so organized everything they thought I would accomplish there. They have a great plan I can stick to."
The Drake coaching staff made a strong impression on Boyd.
"They're all cool," he said. "They do a great job in practice with their guys. They're young, they're passionate, coach (Mark) Phelps really knows the game well, and his assistants have played high level basketball. That makes me feel good about buying what they say and trusting them. They all know the game so well and are young, down to earth people."
Boyd had previously committed to New Mexico State before changing his mind.
UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine and Loyola Marymount, among others, were involved with Boyd prior to his committing to Drake.
