Justin Holt Gets it Done Early

Justin Holt, the 6-6 power forward from Tacoma, saw his stock shoot up this July and decided to jump on an offer. He'll be playing for a school that's nearby...

Justin Holt, 6-6 SR PF, Tacoma (Wash.) Lincoln, verbally committed to Oregon State today.

"Oregon State has always been there," Holt said. "I committed early just because I knew in my heart that's where I wanted to be. I knew it was my type of school and my type of coaching staff."

Holt said that OSU Head Coach Ritchie McKay was a big factor in his decision. "He's a good Christian guy. He's been on me for a long time. He was the first to recruit me. I really respect him and think he'll be a good coach for me."

Another big factor was the proximity to home and the chance at early playing time. "It's only 3 1/2 hours away. I've looked at their roster and feel that I'll have a good chance at early playing time. That means a lot to me."

Holt chose OSU over Portland, Idaho, Wyoming, Irvine, Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, Boise State and Utah.

Holt said he has a 2.7 core GPA and scored a 970 on his SAT.
