Thomas Shewmake is Much Improved

Thomas Shewmake, a 6-10 center from Cathedral City, has undergone a remarkable transformation in just a few months. He's lost some weight, his play has picked up and he's drawing interest from a few Pac-10 schools, among others.

Thomas Shewmake, 6-9 C Cathedral City (Calif.) High, has improved a great deal in the last 3-4 months. In the spring, Shewmake struggled a bit because he was carrying some extra weight. Now that he's lost the weight, Shewmake is moving a lot better and really opening some eyes with his play this month.

We spoke with Thomas recently and he told us he's been hearing from Oregon St., Washington St., Oregon, San Diego St., Pepperdine, San Jose St., Santa Clara and Montana.

We asked if he had a leader and Thomas said, "Oregon, Oregon St., Pepperdine and Washington St."

Thomas told us that location wouldn't be a factor in his decision. "I'll go anywhere," Thomas said. "The coaching staff, how they play and whether I'll fit in will be the things I look at. I wouldn't mind coming in behind a senior, learning from him and then getting a chance to play."

Thomas told us he wants to get home and answer the phone calls he's received lately. He said he might decide fairly early.

He said that he has a 3.0 GPA and hasn't taken the SAT yet.
