Newkirk commits to Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh picked up their second 2013 verbal commitment on Wednesday. Josh Newkirk, a top 100 recruit, is headed to Pittsburgh.

Josh Newkirk has come to a college decision.

Newkirk, a top 100 prospect and native of Raleigh (N.C.), will play for Jamie Dixon at Pittsburgh, according to a source close to the situation.

The Panthers spent the year searching for a talented lead guard and they picked up just that. Newkirk, a 6-footer, plays well in transition and has impressive speed and athleticism.

A four-star prospect, Newkirk is ranked No. 89 overall in the 2013 class and is regarded as the No. 21 point guard.

Newkirk is Pittsburgh's second commitment of the 2013 recruiting class. Newkirk joins top 100 power forward Mike Young to make up their current recruiting class.
