"It was a great decision for me," said Washington. "Seeing the fan support, seeing how much they really want me, and I was their first forward on an official visit. I saw how I would fit in, ACC, the schedule is crazy, that conference I think is the best in the nation."
Washington continued about NC State, "The people down there, the players, the personality, I wanted to be a part of it. Everyone has them ranked top 10. I want to be a part of that big time basketball. I love the tradition and the warm weather."
Things had been narrowed down to Ohio State, Washington, and Iowa State along with the Wolfpack, and the plan seemed to be to take multiple official visits. Washington himself was even somewhat surprised that he issued a commitment.
"I didn't think I was going to commit," Washington explained. "I told everybody I was going to go on all of my visits, but I always said if I had a gut feeling I would go with it."
Already with Barber and Washington in the class, NC State is setting up for another high level group. Washington knows more are likely to be added, and he is excited with the possibilities.
"I think we can build a one of a kind class," said Washington. "I know Coach Gottfried wants another wing and another forward. We'll see what happens but I think we have a great start with Cat and myself. He is a great point guard, so it is something we can build on."
Washington is a four-star power forward who now attends Wolfeboro (NH) Brewster Academy.
