Embiid Drawing Heavy Interest

Joel Embiid, a promising 6-11 center from Cameroon, is trying to decide which schools he will visit in the next couple months...

Joel Embiid, 6-11 SR C Gainesville (Flor.) The Rock School, is originally from Cameroon but he's spent the last few years attending high school in Florida. While his offensive game is still a work in progress, Embiid has a very good body and above average athleticism.

I spoke with Embiid recently and asked about the schools that are recruiting him.

"Florida, Texas, Kansas, UCLA, Marquette, Virginia and Wake Forest," said Embiid. "They've all offered a scholarship."

When asked if he has a leader out of the group, Embiid said "no, I don't have a leader."

Embiid said he's in the process of trying to figure out which schools he will visit.

"I will figure it out next week," said Embiid. "I want to visit Florida, Texas and Virginia for sure. I will pick the other two visits from the other schools."

I asked Embiid what he's looking for in a school.

"I want to go someplace with good people," said Embiid. "I'd like to watch them practice and see if I like it there."

One school that has picked up it's recruitment of Embiid in recent weeks is UCLA.

"I just spoke with Coach Howland before I called you," said Embiid. "He was here on Wednesday."

With UCLA having had success with Cameroonians in the past, I asked Embiid if he has been in touch with Luc Richard Mbah a Moute.

"Yes,he told me that UCLA is a good school, with a good program and a great coach," said Embiid. "He said he had a lot of fun when he was there."

Embiid said he plans on signing in November.
