Smith makes his pick

The Dayton Flyers continued to add to their impressive backcourt depth with the commitment of Dayshon Smith.

The Dayton Flyers and Head Coach Archie Miller knew that they needed to add depth and quality to their backcourt in the 2013 class. That is exactly what they have done with two very good pledges, the latest coming from Dayshon Smith.

Better known as Scoochie, Smith is a New York City kid with the flair for making plays. Smith is a 6-foot-2 guard who had a strong summer with the New York Lightning on the Nike EYBL circuit.

Smith chose the Flyers after making a few official visits. He also had offers from schools such as Providence, Penn State, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Wichita State.

With this commitment Dayton now has an extremely talented backcourt duo of the three-star Smith and four-star Kyle Davis. Given how their games work, Smith and Davis will both do their share of the ball handling duties, but look for Smith to be the one creating off the dribble while Davis uses his athleticism and toughness to score.

Both pledges should be major upgrades for the Flyers, with one of them having the chance to start at the point guard position from the moment they get on campus.

The Flyers will look to add another player or two to this class, including a wing and potentially another post to play down low.
